![]() Some years ago I worked for an organization that supported employees taking mental health days. You could call in and request a mental health day. By doing this didn’t mean you had a mental illness, it just signaled you needed to reserve your own mental health. Retaining your own sanity is important and I feel we neglect often. I’m sure we have all been in a state of mine when we prayed that the phone would stop ringing or a friend would stop telling you all of their problems and would give you a chance to maybe share yours. Protecting your own mental state is important. I take in a movie midweek sometimes to break the work week up and I have learnt how not to answer my phone all hours of the night. Let’s respect and support those who we know that are suffering with mental illnesses. Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 2-8. I totally agree. I believe that all jobs should offer mental health days as a option. Work can be stressful. Life can be stressful. Sometimes people often escape the chaos of family life with work only to become even more stressed once they arrive at work. Life is about finding a perfect balance and sometimes that means stepping away from it all and enjoying what I like to call "me time".
